My latest paper piecing project

I probably need yet another quilt project like a hole in the head! ๐Ÿ™‚

But what can I do? My motto has always been: When inspiration strikes, don’t stand in the way!

And I will need this quilt to show off my pattern! In any case: Reason doesn’t stand a chance when it comes to quilts.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It all started when I was playing with the design software and came up with the ‘Pinky’ layout. The pattern lends itself to be made with large scale patterned fabric, like the Amy Butler or Kaffe Fassett style ones. And then last week I was browsing the internet (fabric of course! My favourite past time) and finally gave in to the urge to place an order when I came across a lovely ‘layer cake’ pack of Kaffe Fassett fabrics in greens and aqua. Simply delicious! A ‘Layer cake’ by the way, is a pack of different coordinated fabrics cut to 10 x 10 in squares (25 x 25 cm). They are a great way of buying many fabric from the same collection without having to pay a fortune (mind, they are not exactly cheap either, just a more manageable investment). Unfortunately I got so carried away with starting the project that I didn’t take a picture of the fabrics BEFORE I cut them up (I apologise!). But here is a picture of how I arranged cutting the layer cakes for my 1.5 in (3.8 cm) Hexagons. I easily managed to get 8 Hexies out of each piece. For the pattern I will need 150 Hexies and there were 20 different fabrics in the pack, so all is spot on with one pack. Of course I will also need ‘back ground’ fabric for the rows of Diamonds (but I will deal with that another day).

Anyhow, I got so carried away that 2 evenings into the project I have already done 105 Hexies! And don’t they look great?? Just another 45 to go – and then the Diamonds of course.  ๐Ÿ™‚

WOW, not a fan of Mr Fassett’s fabrics but love these!!! Can’t wait to see the background fabric that you have chosen. Can’t wait to see the quilt’s progress.

Hi Julie, I thought you might like it despite the designer choice. Just wait until you see the border fabric I chose yesterday ๐Ÿ˜‰
will try to put an update up later this week.
