12-Petal Dresden Plate (10″ diameter)
£2.30 – £9.50
We are very pleased to be able to offer these larger sized Dresden Plate paper pieces.
This flower is made up of 12 petals and has an overall size of 10 inches (25 cm) in diameter (at the widest point). It therefore fits nicely on a 12″ sized block!
The central Circle is appliqued on top and is of course included in the packets.
PLEAD NOTE:
The finished flowers are appliqued onto a background fabric (like all Dresden Plate flowers!). It is advised to leave the paper pieces in place for the applique stage, because it keeps the petals in shape and stops the flower from being distorted!! The papers are removed afterwards by trimming back the excess backing fabric (behind the flower) to expose the paper pieces.
Of course the Petals can also be used to make 1/4 Plates or ‘Fans’ (which would come out at 5 inches square (12.5 cm))!
Because the Dresden Plate pattern involves paper piecing with curved papers we recommend this pattern only for quilters that already have some paper piecing experience!
Available in packets of: 1 (complete) flower, 3 flowers or 9 flowers

Top tip when paper piecing our Dresden Plates:
When folding the fabric over the paper piece edge, DO NOT fold it over at the bottom/base of the petals! Because the circle paper pieces are ‘appliqued’ on top it can be a very tight fit, and therefore not folding the fabric over at the base eliminates problems when sewing on the circle. When folding the fabric around the ’round end’ of the petal make sure to make very small tacking stitches and ‘smooth’ the fabric over the edge after each stitch (sounds more difficult than it is). And always remember: Practice makes perfect curves!
