‘Long Hexagons’ are Hexagons that have been stretched in length only!

This shape is NOT suitable for the Lucy Boston ‘Patchwork of the Crosses Pattern’ (POTC). This shape does NOT tessellate with Squares! For the above mentioned patterns you will need to choose ‘Honeycombs’!! (here is a link to the Honeycombs for you:

Long Hexagons have kept the characteristic internal angles of the original Hexagon shape and therefore tessellate with Hexagons, 60 deg Diamonds and Triangles. They are great in Scrap-Quilts that use as many different fabrics as possible.

We measure the size of our Long Hexagon shapes by the length of the LONG edge and they are available as paper pieces in 4 sizes:

• 1 inch (2.5 cm) on the LONG side (0.5 inch on the short side)
• 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) on the LONG side (0.5 inch on the short side)
• 2 inch (2.5 cm) on the LONG side (0.75 inch on the short side)
• 2 inch (5.1 cm) on the LONG side (1 inch on the short side)
• 7/8th inch (2.2 cm) on the LONG side (5/8th inch on the short side)

We also have acrylic templates to match some of these paper pieces. You can find these also in the dropdown menu below.  (Please note that the smaller 1″ acrylic template has a 1/4″ seam allowance, while the acrylic for the larger 2″ size has a more generous 3/8th” seam allowance.)
